Cannon River, Minnesota
The Cannon River is Part of the Great River Road Audio Tour

Cannon River Minnesota Tourism Information

The Cannon River stretches east to west across much of southern Minnesota ending at the Mississippi near the town of Red Wing, and is known both as a State Water Trail and a Minnesota Wild and Scenic River. The Cannon River was a major historical trade and travel route and people often hid their canoes along the mouth of the river. French fur traders noticed this and named the river La Riviere aux Canots, or “the river of canoes”. The Cannon River is known great for tubing and canoeing, and you can rent either at the Welch Mill Canoeing and Tubing Company in Welch, MN. Some other things to see and do around the Cannon River include fishing, birding, visiting the Cannon River Winery in Cannon Falls and visiting historic Red Wing, MN where the river meets the Mississippi.
