Lake City Minnesota Tourism Information
Lake City, MN is located on Lake Pepin along Highway 61 in Minnesota. Lake City is famous for being the home of Ralph Samuelson, who at the tender age of 18 invented the sport of waterskiing in 1922. A few years later Samuelson also invented ski jumping. Samuelson never intended to make any money off his invention and never patented any of his skis. Lake Pepin is the home of Pepie the Pepin Monster, a lake monster similar to that of Loch Ness in Scotland. Some stories of Pepie sightings are recent, but many date back as far as the 1700s as reported by the native Dakota peoples. Some things to do and see in Lake City, MN are boating, fishing or waterskiing (of course) on Lake Pepin, hiking or biking the area’s numerous trails, tent and RV camping and golfing.
