Elk River, MN is located along Highway 10 in Minnesota, just northwest of the Twin Cities. The Elk River was named by famed explorer Zebulon Pike because of the numerous herds of elk he saw in the area, which no longer exist there today. Highway 10 in the area of Elk River was one of the first roads in Minnesota to be paved. Some things to see and do in Elk River, MN include visiting the nearby Oliver H. Kelley Living History Farm, the Ellingson Car Museum in nearby Rogers as well as fishing, hiking, biking and camping along the Rum and Mississippi Rivers.
