Minneapolis and St. Paul - The Twin Cities
The Twin Cities are Part of the North Shore of Lake Superior Audio Tour

Twin Cities Minnesota Tourism Information

Minneapolis and St. Paul are known locally as the "Twin Cities" because they are actually adjoining cities split only by the Mississippi River. While St. Paul is the capital city of Minnesota, Minneapolis is actually the larger of the two in population. The population of Minneapolis is 390,000, while the population of St. Paul is 287,000. The Twin Cities metropolitan area, which includes the two main cities and their suburbs, has a poplulation of nearly 3 million inhabitants and is the 16th largest metropolitan area in the country. The Twin Cities are well known for their wonderful
art scene and many sporting events. All four major sports have a team based in the Twin Cities (Vikings, Twins, Wild and Timberwolves). Minneapolis' name was coined from the Dakota word for water and the greek word for city, so is translated literally as the "Water City". It is also known as the "City of Lakes" due to the 12 lakes all or partially inside the city, and the "Mill City" due to its history as a major player in the milling industry. The Twin Cities are home to many major businesses including Target, General Mills, 3M and Medtronic. While you're there, try one of the tour options available at Twin Cities Tours.
