Grand Rapids, MN
is located along the Mississippi River and the Great River Road in north-central Minnesota and is well known as the birthplace of actress Judy Garland. Grand Rapids was originally founded as a logging town and is still home to Blandin Paper, one of Minnesota’s largest employers. The Blandin Paper Mill produces mainly the glossy paper found in magazines, and you can tour the mill for free, although dates and times are limited. Some of the things to see and do in Grand Rapids, MN include visiting the Judy Garland Museum, the Forest History Center living history logging camp, the Children’s Discovery Museum and driving the Mississippi’s Great River Road, a highway that follows the Mississippi from its source at Lake Itasca to the southern Minnesota border and on to the Louisiana Delta.
