Aitkin Bog
The Aitkin Bog is Part of the Iron Range Audio Tour

Aitkin Bog Minnesota Tourism Information

The Aitkin Bog is located near Aitkin, MN not far from Highway 169. The bog slowly formed over the last 10,000 years as Glacial Lake Aitkin dried up and left the bog in its place. If you venture out onto the bog, you’ll notice it feels spongy, and that’s because sphagnum moss is present and has the ability to hold 25 to 100 times its weight in water, making the ground feel like you’re walking on a waterbed. The Aitkin Bog is worth checking out to see the curious biodiversity of the area.
