Sauk Rapids Minnesota Tourism Information

Sauk Rapids, MN
is located on Highway 10 just north of Saint Cloud, Minnesota and is named for the rapids just below the mouth of the Sauk River. Sauk Rapids’ first home was a mansion called Lynden Terrace, owned by W.H. Wood. Others soon followed to settle the area known for its forest of trees along the Mississippi River. In 1874, Sauk Rapids was the end of the line for the railroad, which made it an important shipping point. The good fortunes and rising population of the city were dashed in 1886, when a tornado destroyed most of the town, killing 44 people and wounding several hundred.
