St. John’s Abbey
is located in Collegeville, just west of the city of St. Cloud, MN, and is the second largest Benedictine monastery in the hemisphere. Saint John’s is not only home to the abbey, but also a preparatory school, their school of theology and Saint John’s University. The Benedictines originally settled in Minnesota in 1856, when brothers from the St. Vincent Abbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania by way of Germany settled in what is now Collegeville to start St. John’s Abbey.
