Walker Minnesota Tourism Information

Walker, MN is located inside the Chippewa National Forest along Highway 371 in central Minnesota. Walker was named for lumber baron Thomas B. Walker in order to get him to set up a sawmill in the town. However, Walker started his sawmill in the nearby town of Akeley due to his wife’s moral objections to the numerous bars and brothels in the area of Walker, MN. Walker’s location along Leech Lake makes it a perfect area for recreation, including boating, fishing, hiking and biking on nine different woodland trails and golfing. Other things to do in Walker, MN are visiting the Northland Bison Ranch, horseback riding, visiting the casino or taking an aerial sightseeing tour.
